What is a mashup? Before I finish my mashup opus – not delusional, just really vain – I wanted to learn more about mashup artists that came before me. Personally I enjoy mashup tracks a lot because they have a lush, full sound that’s just great. It’s kind of like listening to a symphony or Arcade Fire because there are so many instruments and samples in question.
Not to seem like a total weed freak, but c’mon I did go to Berkeley. The Dirty Electro show is off to a promising start with the “Canna-Bass” Hash Up Music Video now streaming on YouTube. This episode combines your favorite weed related songs in the musical styles of EDM, electro, trap, bass, dubstep and grime; with retro anti-marijuana public service announcements, psychedelic imagery and funny cannabis related cartoons. Plus an original mash up by me, Black Betty. That’s a three dimensional video X reggae song X drum and bass track remix. Is that enough for you? Is it?!
If you enjoy watching video footage sync up with bits of electro music then you are in for a treat. These eleven songs are each available as a free music download and linked below. This is the season finale of generation two of the Dirty Electro Show on Black Betty Blog. Congratulations to the artists. Be sure to follow them on SoundCloud. And subscribe to Black Betty Blog on YouTube.
BB demonstrates how to make a VJ transition (in beta). Each song has been assigned a corresponding video. Watch the video mash ups (if you want). And then scroll to the bottom to see what happens when we mix them together.
This free music compilation features some of the hottest electro house tracks from 2008-2014. The revolutionary VJ video that accompanies it prominently features the theme of the electric house. A lot of the video footage is turn of the century pro-electricity propaganda that they showed in early movie theaters to introduce the new concept of electricity to the general population. And now we have all this great “electronic house” music — or something. Let’s watch!
